New Member Auditions

We would like to welcome anyone interested in joining Theatre South Productions to our new member auditions on Sunday 19th September in the Scout Hall, Aidens Brae (just off Mearns Road), Clarkston from 2pm until 8pm.

Please confirm if you would like to audition by email to theatresouthproductions@hotmail.com. We would be grateful if you could let us know if you are still interesting in performing with TSP, and if you have any preference for the time of your audition on this day. Please respond to us by Wednesday 15th September. We will email out your allocated audition time nearer the time.

Those who are successful in their auditions will be invited to join the club.

For our next show, Wedding Singer, we anticipate that we will be looking for 5-10 new cast members however the exact number will depend on the number of current members who will be doing the show, and how many spaces we have left. We do anticipate, however, that all new members will be able to do Wedding Singer.

Auditions for actual parts in Wedding Singer will be carried out mid October.

The Audition Process

So...what will you have to do for your audition??!

Please prepare:

1) A verse and a chorus of a song of your choice (please provide backing music on CD/Ipod or sheet music should you require it as there will be a pianist on the day)

2) A short 1-2 minute monologue or piece of script. You are not required to learn the speech by heart, but it is probably best if you choose a speech you are familiar with, and which you are comfortable performing. There are books of audition speeches available in the drama sections of book stores, libraries, and also online. If you need someone to read opposite you, one of the panel will be happy to assist.

3) Our choreographer will also take you through a very short movement piece which we will use to assess your dance capabilities.

Your audition will take place in front of a panel of representatives from the club.

We will endeavour to let you know if you are successful or not within 48 hours of your audition.

Successful auditionees will be invited to join TSP and attend the first pre-audition rehearsal for Wedding Singer on Wednesday 29th September.

If you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to drop us an email and we very much look forward to seeing you on 19th September!

Congratulations

In addition to TSP’s many wonderful achievements over the past 4 months, we would also like to acknowledge the numerous personal accomplishments of our members!

Firstly, congratulations to Michael Adair; long standing performing member and Director of two previous productions, on the grand opening of Giffnock Convenience. We wish you the very best of luck and know your priceless charm and sales patter will flourish throughout!

This is a year of firsts for Julieann Crannie, who is not only excelling in her new role as choreographer for TSP, but is toasting the first birthday of 1940’s dance troupe The Kennedy Cupcakes. You can join the girls and That Swing Sensation for a fabulous evening of entertainment and dancing, in the stunning banqueting suite at The Alona Hotel, Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire on Friday 10th September 2010 7.30pm-Midnight.

Our RENT soundtrack this year has been accompanied by the patter of tiny feet with the birth of Suzanne McClafferty’s son and Mark Armstrong’s nephew Cian, along with recent announcements from both Aileen Cavers and Pauline Cushing who are expecting! We wish you all the very best for the future and look forward to welcoming the new arrivals into the TSP family!!!

Thanks

The club would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of Joanne Brough, super organized PA to the PTD who has handed over the reins to Nicola Adair after 3 years of exceptional work!

We would also like to thank Kevin McGuire who has stepped down from the PTD due to additional performing commitments; however, we look forward to supporting you in The Apollo Players’ production of Gypsy in October!!!

Our Spring 2011 show: The Wedding Singer

We are pleased to announce The Wedding Singer as our Spring 2011 show!

It's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Heart, who still lives in his grandmother's basement, is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party until his fiancé, Linda, leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. When he meets an Julia, an admiring young waitress, Robbie falls madly in love. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980s, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.

The show will run from Tuesday 13th to Saturday 19th March 2011 at Eastwood Park Theatre.

If you are interested in this production, find out how to join us.

Kisses On Sale At Clarkston Farmer's Market

Theatre South Productions find novel way of promoting new show Kiss Me Kate

Clarkston Farmers Market

The Clarkston Farmer’s Market is normally the place for buying your weekly shop of organic vegetables, handmade soaps or fresh bread. Amidst the free range poultry and chocolate spoons, local amateur theatre group Theatre South Productions found a new platform to promote their forthcoming musical Kiss Me Kate. At the most recent Farmer’s Market in Clarkston Car Park, the group handed out free candy Love Hearts to those taking a flyer for their show. Actors brought a touch of drama to the farming world. Club spokesman Daniel Sedgwick commented: "For over 15 years now we have been leading the way in amateur theatre on the south side. The talent, energy and enthusiasm of our club continually delight our audiences, and we (brought) some of that to the Farmer’s market at the end of February!?

Market organiser Tom Gibson asked TSP to bring “enthusiasm? to the event. Admittedly, locals were a little bemused at the sight of actors mingling with farmers at the monthly setup. Many were delighted however, to see a Shakespeare adaptation being given prominence. The Clarkston stalls suddenly had an air of the setting for the musical, Padua in Italy.

Local Amateur Dramatics Club raises £2,400 for Glasgow Charities

amateur dramaticsamateur dramatics

South side amateur dramatics society, Theatre South Productions, has raised an incredible £2,400 in support of three local charities.

The group has become renowned throughout the south side of Glasgow for the professional standard of their sell out shows in Easterwood Park Theatre, and through the hard work and dedication of the cast and production team in the build up to their recent revue show, 'Best of Broadway', the group has helped to make a difference to the lives of those in need in Glasgow.

The three charities to benefit from the generous donation were St Margaret's Hospice, The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and Maggie's Cancer Centre, who came along to the club's annual Burns Ceilidh in Clarkston last week to celebrate the contribution, and to be presented with their cheques.

Club spokesman Daniel Sedgwick commented "For over 15 years now we have been supported by audiences in Glasgow and wanted to channel the talent and energy of the club to give something back. The charities we chose have all touched the lives of people in our club, and help hundreds of people each year. It's great to have been able to use what we love doing, putting on great shows, to help people in our community".

"It has given everyone involved in the club a great lift and it's definitely something we want to do again in the future!"

Theatre South Productions announce Rent for 2010

rent

We're delighted to confirm that TSP have secured the rights for the smash hit broadway musical, Rent! This amazing rock opera tells the story of one year in the life of a group of bohemians struggling in modern day East Village New York. The story centres around Mark and Roger, two room-mates. While a former tragedy has made Roger numb to life, Mark tries to capture it through his attempts to make a film. In the year that follows, the group deals with love, loss, AIDS, and modern day life in one truly powerful story. Rent won a Tony Award for Best Musical and a Pulitzer Prize, among other awards.

Based on Puccini's 'La Boheme', 'Rent' tells the story of one year in the life of friends living the Bohemian life in modern day East Village, New York City, 1989-1990 and shows how much changes or doesn't change in the 525,600 minutes that make up a year.

If you are interested in joining for Rent, or for our next production, Boogie Nights, click here.
