The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best
Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie was the 2002 season's most awarded new show on Broadway! Based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film,Thoroughly Modern Millie takes you back to the
height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when "moderns," including a flapper named Millie Dillmount, were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce and rewriting the rules of
love. This high-spirited musical romp is a delightful valentine to the long-standing spirit of New York City and the people who seek to discover themselves there.
Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly
Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount from Kansas, who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man
and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East, her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage and the man she
actually falls in love with doesn't have a dime to his name... or so he tells her.
Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading
men and a dragon lady of a villainess that audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. From explosive tap numbers to a
"Fred and Ginger" routine on a window ledge, this is the perfect show for theatres that are looking to show off the dance skills of their performers. In Millie Dillmount, musical theatre has found a
new heroine for the ages in Thoroughly Modern Millie!

Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan's $1000 bet that he can't get Sarah Brown to
go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; Police
Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time; and the

TSP announced The Wedding Singer as our Spring 2011 show
It's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Heart, who still lives in his grandmother's basement, is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party until his fiancé, Linda, leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.
When he meets an Julia, an admiring young waitress, Robbie falls madly in love. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980's, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.

Theatre South Productions announce Rent for 2010
We're delighted to confirm that TSP have secured the rights for the smash hit Broadway musical, Rent! This amazing rock opera tells the story of one year in the life of a group of bohemians struggling in modern day East Village New York. The story centres around Mark and Roger, two room-mates. While a former tragedy has made Roger numb to life, Mark tries to capture it through his attempts to make a film. In the year that follows, the group deals with love, loss, AIDS, and modern day life in one truly powerful story. Rent won a Tony Award for Best Musical and a Pulitzer Prize, among other awards.
Based on Puccini's 'La Boheme', 'Rent' tells the story of one year in the life of friends living the Bohemian life in modern day East Village, New York City, 1989-1990 and shows how much changes or doesn't change in the 525,600 minutes that make up a year.
Following an intense and highly emotional rehearsal weekend at the end July, our inspirational cast performed a highly-polished production of RENT! Iain Runciman took on the role of struggling filmmaker Mark. Johnny Collins brought his tragic and bitter flat mate Roger to life. They were ably accompanied by Christina Leon (Mimi), Daniel Sedgwick (Collins), Sean McGovern (Angel), Mélanie Morrison (Maureen), Joanne McLean (Joanne), Michael Hastie (Benny) and a 20 strong ensemble cast.
We also welcomed three new members to the club: Iain Jarvie, Cameron Kirby and the aforementioned Sean McGovern.
Kisses On Sale At Clarkston Farmer's Market
Theatre South Productions find novel way of promoting new show Kiss Me Kate.
The Clarkston Farmer’s Market is normally the place for buying your weekly shop of organic vegetables, handmade soaps or fresh bread. Amidst the free range poultry and chocolate spoons, local amateur theatre group Theatre South Productions found a new platform to promote their forthcoming musical Kiss Me Kate. At the most recent Farmer’s Market in Clarkston Car Park, the group handed out free candy Love Hearts to those taking a flyer for their show.
Actors brought a touch of drama to the farming world. Club spokesman Daniel Sedgwick commented: "For over 15 years now we have been leading the way in amateur theatre on the South side. The talent, energy and enthusiasm of our club continually delight our audiences, and we (brought) some of that to the Farmer’s market at the end of February!?
Market organiser Tom Gibson asked TSP to bring “enthusiasm? to the event. Admittedly, locals were a little bemused at the sight of actors mingling with farmers at the monthly setup. Many were delighted however, to see a Shakespeare adaptation being given prominence. The Clarkston stalls suddenly had an air of the setting for the musical, Padua in Italy.
Local Amateur Dramatics Club raises £2,400 for Glasgow Charities
South side amateur dramatics society, Theatre South Productions, raised an incredible £2,400 in support of three local charities.
The group has become renowned throughout the south side of Glasgow for the professional standard of their sell out shows in Eastwood Park Theatre, and through the hard work and dedication of the cast and production team in the build up to their recent revue show, 'Best of Broadway', the group has helped to make a difference to the lives of those in need in Glasgow.
The three charities to benefit from the generous donation were St Margaret's Hospice, The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and Maggie's Cancer Centre, who came along to the club's annual Burns Ceilidh in Clarkston last week to celebrate the contribution, and to be presented with their cheques.
Club spokesman Daniel Sedgwick commented "For over 15 years now we have been supported by audiences in Glasgow and wanted to channel the talent and energy of the club to give something back. The charities we chose have all touched the lives of people in our club, and help hundreds of people each year. It's great to have been able to use what we love doing, putting on great shows, to help people in our community".
"It has given everyone involved in the club a great lift and it's definitely something we want to do again in the future!"
